Staying motivated and competitive no matter what!
If motivation and staying on top of our game were easy, we would all be moving mountains or climbing up the corporate ladder at the speed of light. It’s human nature to lose motivation at times. We all know the feeling too well and say to ourselves, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore’ or ‘I don’t believe I can manage this anymore’…
It can cause an overwhelming feeling of distress and anxiety for many. But it is only natural to have these feelings arise when motivation is lost, and the first step to being motivated again is acknowledging that you lack it. Only then, will you be able to move forward and to regain or find a new source of motivation.
“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.”
― Thomas Jefferson
So, what can we do when we find ourselves lacking motivation?
First we can analyze why we are less motivated than usual. Do we have problems at home? Do we lack confidence in ourselves as to our capacity to accomplish a project? Do we just generally lack enthusiasm for our job? Ask ourselves, why do we suddenly ‘I give up’?
Whatever the reason for our shortage of motivation, there are some things we can do to stop ourselves from ‘drowning in hopelessness’ and get right back on track as fast as possible. Most of the time, we are our own worst enemy when striving towards our objectives. Too stressed, too tired, too sad, too little time, too much to do, too difficult are our excuses to not reach the objectives we set ourselves which causes our motivation to lag, dwindle and disappear.
SET OBJECTIVES!
So what can we do? First of all, we can set ourselves objectives before starting any work or home-related project. Then write down these objectives clearly. Knowing where we are going is a key motivator. Setting objectives gets us back on track when we start idling.
TIP
If you feel you are losing your way or motivation, write down your main objective on a piece of paper and put it in a place where you see it often. For example, tape it onto your computer at work. It can remind you why and what you want to achieve. Write it out with the benefit of reaching your objective. This will boost your motivation.
CREATE CONFIDENCE CARDS!
Create confidence cards for yourselves. Often, when we lack motivation, we start losing confidence in ourselves.
#1. Write on a paper
‘I am’ followed by 10 positive words about yourself. If your lack of motivation is because the project is too difficult in your opinion, then write, ‘I can do this because’ and find 10 reasons why you can achieve this objective.
#2. Once you have those 10 words
Narrow it down to the top 5 most motivating words.
#3. Write the above on 3 different cards
Keep one card with you at all times, so if you feel down or are losing faith in yourselves, you can pick the card up and read it. Keep another one in a place you go to often. It could be in your car or at your desk. Keep one at home that you can read every morning to give you an extra boost so that when you get to work, you are confident and motivated. You don’t believe me. Try it.
“And will you succeed? Yes, indeed, yes indeed! Ninety-eight and three-quarters percent guaranteed!” ― Dr. Seuss
To get Results
There’s a saying that goes ‘fake it ‘till it’s real’. This is what you need to do in times of self-doubt. Find the right tools that will enable you to keep on moving forward, motivated and feeling stronger than ever. Start believing in yourselves and find your self-worth. At first, reading these cards might seem like a joke, but as time passes, you will start believing them and gain that self-confidence back that you somehow lost on the way. Always remember, you can, and will get your motivation back if you give yourselves a chance to do so!
“The individual who says it is not possible should move out of the way of those doing It.”
― Tricia Cunningham
Re-motivated, you will be stronger than ever and positively more competitive as you now have tools that will prevent you from ever losing your motivation again. You will be on top of your game and one step ahead of anyone who has not taken the time to ensure they will always be motivated, no matter what…
The cards are in your hands now, find out what motivates you, remind yourself of it and let it drive you to success!
